| Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) |
| What is it? |
- Eyelid surgery or eye bag removal is a surgical procedure to correct drooping, sagging or 'heavy' upper or lower eyelids, particularly if they impair vision, and to eliminate folds of skin under the eyes to restore a youthful "wide awake" look to the eyes.
|
| What it can't do |
|
| What's involved? |
- Eyelid surgery can be carried out on upper, lower or both eyelids
- Your surgeon will make a cut along the natural lines and folds of your eye socket while you're under a local or general anaesthetic
- The excess fat, skin and muscle are removed and the cut is then carefully stitched together.
- The overall procedure will take around one to two hours to complete
- You may be asked to stay overnight in hospital to minimise the swelling and bruising afterwards
|
| Your recovery |
- Although some people return to work in four to five days, you should allow one to two weeks to recover fully.
|
| Possible side effects |
- Side effects are usually temporary and can include bruising and swelling, blurred vision for a few days, dry and itchy eyes.
|
| Your results |
- Eyelid surgery is considered a permanent solution for the correction of drooping eyelids and under-eye bags, although the skin around your eyes will continue to age in the normal way.
