Non-Surgical skin treatments for broken veins, skin rejeuvenation and hair removal offered bt The Gatehouse Clinic

In recent years there have been a number of advances in laser and non-surgical techniques for treating skin conditions.  These include the permanent removal of unwanted hair and broken blood vessels.  Light facial peels and microdermabrasion are very effective in maintaining a youthful complexion.

At the Gatehouse Clinic we specialise in these techniques and below are some of the questions we are commonly asked.

I have problem hair on my face and legs- can this be removed permanently?

Yes.  Intense Pulse light treatment specifically targets hair roots.  The pigment within them absorbs the energy and the hair will not grow again.

Will I need more than one treatment?

Yes.  Intense Pulse light therapy targets growing hair roots.  At any time approximately 80% of hairs are in the growing phase and it is these that will be removed.

Does this treatment work on all hair types?

No.  Intense pulse light therapy targets pigment cells within the hair roots.  It is therefore less effective on light hair.  If you are wondering if this treatment is suitable for you we would be happy to discuss this in person at the Gatehouse Clinic.

I have broken veins on my cheeks and legs- can they be treated?

Yes.  These broken vessels are very common and often run in the family.  On the face they tend to produce a florid complexion.  On the legs they look unsightly and can be associated with larger varicose veins.

How are they treated?

Broken vessels on the face are normally treated with laser therapy.  The specific wavelength of light emitted specifically targets the red colouration of the vessels.  Following treatment the area can be slightly bruised for 7-10 days following treatment.

How are broken vessels on the legs treated?

These vessels are usually wider than those on the cheeks.  Therefore laser therapy is less effective and injection techniques are often more effective.  In this technique very fine injections are made into the vessels, this causes them to block and they are then absorbed naturally by the body.

What can be done to improve the condition of my skin?

Skin health is a complex issue and a number of treatments are available.  This starts with a thorough skin analysis.  In this the skin hydration, acid content and sun damage are measured.

What treatments are available?

Depending on your skin condition we will recommend the appropriate treatment.  This could consist of advice on daily skin care to specific treatments.  These include light peels with fruit acids which remove the dead top layers of skin making it more even and youthful.
