Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
What is it?
What's involved?
- Your surgeon will make a cut across your waistline in a broad U-Shape
- The skin will be lifted and separated from the underlying tissue and the excess fat removed, sometimes by liposuction
- A second cut will be made around your navel, so the navel can be repositioned on your new tummy
- The muscles and associated tissue are then drawn together to tighten the waistline
- The skin is pulled tight over the tummy and the navel repositioned.
- The excess skin is trimmed and then stitched together
- The operation will take two to five hours to complete
- You will require a general anaestehetic and a stay overnight in hospital.
Your recovery
-
You can resume you normal activities within seven to ten days and you should be fully recovered within four to six weeks
- Strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month after your operation
Things to be aware of
-
You may experience nausea following the general anaesthetic as well as temporary soreness and swelling of your tummy and hip areas which should pass within a few days to a week
Your results
- You can expect the results of your tummy tuck to last for quite a while, although your lifestyle, diet and exercise routine will play a part in it all.
- Overeating, eating too many fatty foods and not exercising will lead to a gradual build up of excess fat around your tummy, undoing all the good work a tummy tuck achieves.
